Watch Trevor Noah It's My Culture Online

February 20, 2021

It really hit me today when I was trying to see which MLB games had been postponed due to the protests, and I saw that the Angels and Astros game had been cancelled. Then I looked at it, figuring that it had been postponed in protest, but nope, it was postponed due to Hurricane Laura. I had completely forgotten about the hurricane because of everything else going on. That was a humbling moment for me and it made me realize just how fucked up the world was. It was when I realized that even though I cut politics out of my life 6 weeks ago (in preparation for the first day of school, which was supposed to be today, August 26) it doesn't matter, the horribleness of this world is unavoidable unless you stay off social media, don't watch TV (not even Comedy Central because all you hear in the commercials is "we're here for you" from corporations and Trevor Noah saying "Orange Man Bad" and not even sports with social justice stuff all over the place), and you stay inside all day and do absolutely nothing (oh wait, that's what they WANT you to do).

I've turned into an extreme pessimist. Considering what's happening in sports, it made me think that the night when school closed and quarantine began, the NBA suspended the season. Now, on the original first day of school, the day quarantine was originally supposed to end, the NBA is probably gonna suspend the season for good, kinda symbolic, kinda sad how that all works out. But yeah I'm honestly sick of this year and just waiting for 2021 at this point.

Here is why. The Daily Show's Trevor Noah books second Vancouver show for summer Trevor Noah takes on 'Cornerstone Caroline' I am a bot trying to encourage a balanced news diet. My senior year is completely screwed. I have to apply to college during a pandemic and don't get to have any of the fun at football games, homecoming, senior formal, or pep rally that I always dreamed of this fall, maybe in the winter and spring, but who honestly knows. However this cursed year and election cycle will be over by then so there's hope. But you can't complain about anything! If I complain about hybrid, the 2020 Gods (aka Satan) will rip off the bandaid and make it so we go remote and then slap another global tragedy on top. If it ever feels like normal, you're in for a bumpy ride. The week before Memorial Day, it felt like somewhat like normal, one week later all chaos broke loose. The same thing happened from last week to this week, and I predicted it this time. It's gotten to the point where I'm placing bets on what the next month's major tragedy is. In September I predict the protests will flare up again, they'll be another major hurricane that hits the country, and that EEE mosquito virus from last year will become an epidemic again.

For most of us, that's impossible with work and school, and it's not like we don't wanna do anything anyways. Today was supposed to be an amazing day. It was supposed to be the first day of my senior year. Even in quarantine, this was the day I always looked forward to. I felt sad? August 26. I felt angry? August 26. I felt anxious? August 26. I missed my friends? August 26. I wanted to get out of the house? August 26. I wanted to make memories for life? August 26. Ever since I found out that this was the first day of school on March 13, today was the light at the end of the tunnel. Even when we thought we were hybrid or even remote, it always was the light at the end of the quarantine tunnel. But alas, it wasn't to be, as the state teacher's union won 10 days because they needed "extra time" and the length of the school year was reduced from 180 days to 170 days. They then delayed the first day from today until September 10. They then said they had "no idea" whether or not we'd be hybrid or remote, and I assumed remote because it's par for the course for 2020, even though we've had coronavirus under control since before the end of May.
