As I grew up, gradually I had fewer opportunities to watch it, and I'm hoping to get a chance soon because I could use the inspiration. This is one of those mini-series that was clearly designed to be a television event, featuring charming, heart-warming storytelling with humor mixed in. You really have to go in with low expectations and just be along for the ride. Special effects are not its strong point, and the set pieces get downright cheesy at times, but that lo-fi nature of the presentation is all part of the experience, and it really is a lot of fun. John Larroquette is a bit miscast in my opinion, and out of his element, which maybe was the idea, but Scott Cohen stole the film as a Wolf with a character arc, winning… when trolls listening to Night Fever genuinely changed the trajectory of your life <3 Sometimes, back in college, when we would have those rare days without work or school, we would sit in bed, order a pizza, and watch Halmi produced television movies all day. The 10th Kingdom was their crown jewel.
Yes, I cried when I found it at Walmart. Yes, 20 years later I still love it! That horny Wolf lad wouldn't wash today but he's maybe the most fun character. Warwick Davis and Rutger Hauer can't be bad in anything, besides all those movies Rutger phoned in. Obviously. Watched this one with my little lady. She watched it as a child and it was very inspiring to her. So much in fact that she released her first book, a reimagining of The Little Mermaid, when she was only 19. A mashup of different fairy tales provides the canvas for a plot that involves current day and multiple kingdoms, each with their own branch of folklore.

While the acting is what you expect from a movie with this premise and the CGI isn't bad because it is old, but because it… A fairytale adventure like no other! A brilliantly done miniseries with an amazing cast and a well written storyline. I feel I watch this every ten years, as my family watched every episode during its original broadcast in February 2000, while I also distinctly remember watching it over the summer of 2010, and most recently revisited all five parts over the past 3 days (two parts a day, plus the finale and making-of tonight).
