E incluso si eso fuese así, un amor que se base sólo en la belleza más bien sería un antojo juvenil que se pasaría en seguida al alcanzar algo de sensatez. No ayuda la interpretación de los actores, muy poco convincentes. Por ejemplo, John Leguízamo, que suele ser lo mejor allá donde participa, aquí está muy sobreactuado. De Bardem no haría una valoración en contra, pues más que su interpretación lo que no resulta agradable es su personaje. Quien más destaca negativamente es Mezzogiorno ( 'El último beso'), que permanece con el mismo gesto de resignación toda casi la película y cuyos sentimientos nunca llegamos a conocer. Si no sabemos realmente si ella desea o no estar con Ariza, no podemos anhelar como espectadores que ese amor se cumpla.
